it's a flower, okay?

FACT: Franny's middle name is Astilbe. If I were looking at you right now, your brow would be knit in confusion. It is a flower. But I'm not the sort of girl who names my children after flowers. I probably would've chosen differently if I was that girl. No, I did not exactly choose her middle name, it sort of chose her. That sounds like the beginning narration to a sappy movie. Anyways, while I was pregnant I tried and tried to think of a name for this girl. Then one day it was there. No- I didn't 'hear' it or anything, it was just like "oh- Astilbe, where did that come from?" Only it was more of the "Stilbe" part that stuck out at me. Now, I'm also not the girl who has dreams of her children's names and all that (no offense to those who do-- It'd make things easier for sure), but I AM the girl who is paranoid that if I don't use this name somehow, something bad will happen. So I decided to use it as a middle name for Franny. Lately, though, I'm more and more sure that I misinterpreted my prompt. I think it should be just Stilbe. What do I do? Do I go get it changed? Do I just drop the 'A' when I am angry and call her by her full name?
It strikes me as funny (probably ONLY me, it really is a stretch) that it's sort of a play on the words "Be Still". It's kind of like Somebody knew this baby I was about to birth was going to give me a run for my money.
So- the next time I have to give someone Franny's full name, and they cock their head and say "what is it, again?" I will simply wave my hand dismissively and refer them to this entry.

Well I don't think I knew her middle name but I think it fits her very well. Such a cute girl. Love the pics.

I have been wondering where you have been. And you know that I LOVE Frances' middle name. It has an interesting past and a great presence. Even if you do have to explain it every time. Someday, somewhere, someone will say, "oh, astilbe, like the flower. Cool." And you will love that person forever.
